Another good team display today. The Girls were asked to play in a shape with two girls deep in their own half defending that area of the pitch. Two players would play high looking to pressure the ball high up the opposition half and look to find space and receive to play forward when Rebel’s had the ball safe.

The aim was to get the girls to start to recognise and to take responsibility for their our own quarter of the pitch. This would help us to maintain a shape, maintain a safe distance from the player in possession, when we have the ball and tight enough to the opposition player if they had possession. By breaking the pitch in to quarters we were hoping to create a series of 1v1’s each player only having to deal with one opposition player allowing us to make a decision; do I take my 1v1 ? Do I move the ball on safely to retain possession?

Initially we failed to maintain a shape, chasing the ball and taking on multiple players when safe options lay elsewhere. As the game progressed, better discipline, organisation and decision making was rewarded with better passages of play, good positive possession and great goal scoring opportunities. Well Done!
