Today would be another opportunity for the girls to stretch their legs and build on their learning and development as they took to the field of dreams.
The game started at a fierce pace and both teams stamped their authority which meant the game would be end to end with some great defensive and attacking play from both sides.
It was Ponteland who started to take control of the game always thinking forward to play forward, looking for the space to run with the ball (RWB) or play a killer pass forward looking to find the striker.
Ruby M looked confident and commanded her penalty area, her decision making was good getting the team to play out from the back and quickly. The last quarter Ruby stepped into defence and continued to be strong and stop any opposition attack quickly, ( Ruby your challenge will be to communicate and control your defence, always looking for the danger and the opposition player who sneaks passed our defence)
Jess was quick in attack and when playing in the midfield role battled hard to get back and defend for her team. Your skill on the ball is proving to be a real threat with your twisting and turning and ability to keep the ball (Jess your challenge will be to unleash that beast of a shot when the opportunity arises, it might be from inside the box or simply a shot from outside if a team mate sets you up with a nice pass)
Lola worked hard covering every blade of grass and never seemed to run out of steam, she would soon be rewarded with her first goal for her team, her friends her club -We are UNITED, Well done young lady. ( Lola your challenge will be to quickly recognise and understand when we are 'IN POSSESSION (BIG) and when we are OUT of POSSESSION (Compact )
Anya was a real stalwart in defence, strong, great physicality in the tackling and rarely did we see the opposition get past her so we were able to quickly transition from out of possession (defending) to Counter attacking in possession. ( Anya your challenge is to think forward so you can play forward (body shape) and like Lola quickly recognise are we in possession or out of possession ( Big as a team or Compact as a team protecting the goal)
Ruby H 'BEE' Ruby was another energetic player who so easily won us the ball back and got us playing forward with her strong running and ruthless finishing notching up a nice 2 goals. (Ruby your challenge is to stay on the ball, using your physicality and skill to find the space to attack and continue to be confident in your finishing)
Gracie showed real desire and a willingness to get on the ball today and as the centre forward the 'striker' held the position well and when the opportunity from a great through ball came, Gracie did what all great strikers do STUCK IT IN THE NET.( Gracie your challenge like 'BEE' get on the ball and stay on the ball looking for the space to attack, if under pressure then you decide what to do next Pass- to feet or space, shield or pull out some tricks to create space.)
Daisy led from the front again, always prepared to back her team mates up (provide cover) or rotate into a vacated position to ensure we were secure defensively at the back. Once she settled into the game then the footballer came alive with some great solo runs, PASSING with PURPOSE and she was always looking to play forward ( Daisy your challenge is drive at the opposition and deliver killer passes 'like today 'finding the striker or space behind the defence whenever possible.)
Maisie is settled into the game quickly and provided some strength in defence, she always appears calm on the ball and played some great forward passes out from defence another young lady having to learn quickly in her first few matches ( Maisie your challenge similar to Anya can you scan before the ball comes to you so you know where the danger enabling you to get in a good open position to receive the ball on the back foot so we can play forward, Remember side on so we can see the ball coming and know where we want to go)
Eve worked hard on the wings today looking to attack goal as quickly as possible and made some really important tackles to prevent the opposition getting through. ( Eve your challenge is to remain disciplined in the position you are playing be it a striker ( stay up front) if its as a defender keep checking your shoulder to make sure danger hasn't slipped by us with an easy shot on goal)
U9's Libby and Ruby S - Outstanding a really great performance you both battled like Steph Houghton and attacked like Lucy Bronze.
So we will always Look Forward to Play Forward
Always scan to look for danger, our team mates and the space to attack
RWB to find our space
If we are not on the ball we are looking for good supporting positions to help the player on the ball - if they can't see our feet they won't be able to pass to our feet.
Even the furthest player away from the ball should be able to see and stay alert
If we are put under pressure we will then decide to play by
staying on the ball,
dribbling
shield it/hide it,
passing forward
if not forward then the way we are facing to a team mate keeping the team in possession.
Trick/Turn to create space to play pass or RWB
Well done girls 'It's nice to be back'
