Cobra’s provide a real ‘Mothers Day’ delight
The Cobra’ took on Bedlington today in their NMSL League fixture at the Complete Football arena, where a capacity crowd of around 40 spectators packed the touchlines of pitch two hoping to see another spectacular performance from these two entertaining sides.
The crowd weren’t to be disappointed, as the sun shone down on the crowd of paternal mothers who had given up their day of pamper to come and watch their children, the boys had decided prematch to dedicate this want to the parents. A lovely mature gesture from our U7‘s & U8‘s was suitably matched by a mature and terrific Cobra’s performance.
The boys started brightly and were soon moving the ball round with real fizz and flare. Some quick passing play in the middle was supported by athletic movement and pace out on the wings. Bedlington struggled to match the pace of Jack Clemence as the U7’s speed demon tore down the left wing with real, pace and purpose - his quality of pass matching the quality movement and earning him a goal for his efforts. Alfie Holland was instrumental in all things going forward - and even when moved to defense still managed to score a lightning bolt of a strike from practically on the half way line. The second of our U7‘s Alfie the ‘magician’ eventually pulled a superlative hat-trick out of his hat of tricks today.
Dylan Goodman was also in the mix today and played some quality balls in the middle of the field. Despite scoring in open play Dylan was unable to extend his goal tally for the day after his penalty was saved by a spectacular save from the opposition keeper - the signs looked good, great strike, on target but a safe pair of hands thwarting the gaol... happens to the best of them Dylan there always next time.
Max Tortoise was alert in defense and out wide on the wing. Some crucial interceptions and tremendous tackles helping to turnover possession and spring the attack. Despite Bedlington trying to push forward with the overload Max’s sheer pace and determination to win the ball meant even in a 3v1 ‘our man’ came out with the ball.
Carl ‘the Cat’ Gordon was once again outstanding and was duly awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ from both sets of coaches. Some fantastic handling and great distribution allowed Cobra’s to play from the back, but also meant there was an impressive 7th player alert and sweeping up possession right at the back.
Henry Joynson was strong and athletic continually working hard to win possession and play the ball forward. Some great tackles and quick passing helping to string some great Cobra attacks together.
Booby Haggarty was impressive both as a lone striker and as the ‘midfield maestro’ some elegant touches and quick turns helping to switch play or retain possession.
A real impressive performance and real signs of improvement. If we can continue to work hard to recover when we have lost possession and play the ball quickly to get forward and exploit the space in front of the opposition gaol, we will continue to be rewarded with exciting games and shared goals for all the team.
Well done!
