Ponteland United Vipers U8 v North Shields Hawks 0-0
The boys entered their final fixture of the season looking to end on a winning streak and complete the league double over NS Hawks.
The message to the boys before the game was a simple one, put into practice what you have learned and most importantly go and enjoy the game.
The boys started the game strongly and looked to have a better shape about them and with a determined focus. After dominating for long periods the Vipers got the break they deserved with a goal that Ben Arfa would have been pleased with. Aaron picked up the ball and embarked upon one of his trademark runs, driving at the defence and passing them with ease, a slightly heavy touch looked like the chance had gone but Aaron bravely challenged the keeper and got his toe to the ball to put the boys one up.
The game was played at a tremendous pace with chances at both ends although the Viper restricted NSH to set piece chances where they hoped their physical presence (sometimes over physical) and aerial advantage would pay off. Vipers held firm but did concede against the run of play towards the end of the second quarter. A goalless third quarter proceeded an eventful forth quarter with end to end action. It was the Vipers who deservedly came out on top to end the season on a brilliant high with a well worked goal. After some typical jinking wing play from Thomas, who feed William and who in turn threaded a ball into Jack, skipper for the day, who swept the ball into the back of the net before being mobbed by his team mates as the crowd went wild.
It was a fitting end to a good season for the boys who after some initial teething problems, have moulded themselves into a very tight unit with unparalleled team sprit – I’d be amazed if any team in an league at Complete have the togetherness that the Vipers have, win, lose or draw we are in it together.
Well done boys you’ve made the club, coaches and most importantly your parents extremely proud of you this season.
On a personal note I’d like to thank Graham for all his help and support this season, it’s much appreciated and a big thank you to all of the parents for your commitment to the team, it is again much appreciated. Thanks again and enjoy your lazy Sunday mornings again!
Man of the match went to Aaron.
Well done boys
